Khaberni - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that it is impossible to speak of an international system that prevents injustice as Israel drops bombs on Gaza which are 14 times more powerful than those dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
He made these remarks in a speech he gave on Tuesday, during his participation in the 16th conference of Turkish ambassadors in the capital, Ankara. Erdoğan mentioned that the first half of the last century saw two world wars that claimed the lives of millions of people, and the Holocaust was a glaring example of brutality and savagery during that time, leaving deep scars in the collective human memory.
The Turkish president said that the existing international system, which protects the strong and suppresses the oppressed, has produced instability, crises, and injustice for decades.
He added, "More than 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, and over 170,000 have been injured, and no one knows how many bodies are under the rubble." He noted that many husbands and children are currently searching for their mothers, fathers, spouses, or waiting for news about their fate.
He said, "Today, tens of thousands of children who have lost their mothers, fathers, siblings, homes, and schools are clinging to life amidst the ruins in Gaza, they are living witnesses to the genocide."
He noted that the population of the Gaza Strip was about 2.3 million people before the genocide. He pointed out that the Israeli army dropped more than 200,000 tons of bombs on this residential area.
He explained that Israel razed Gaza to the ground using bombs more powerful than those dropped on Hiroshima by 14 times.
Without spirit and feeling
He questioned indignantly, "In light of this situation, how can we talk about an international system that works and produces solutions to these problems and prevents injustice? How can we trust the current structure of global security and governance?"
Erdoğan affirmed that "when looking at the complete picture, the scene we are faced with is as follows: most international institutions today appear dead; without spirit, without feeling, without movement, and ineffective."
He confirmed that the path that began after his meeting with American President Donald Trump in New York culminated in reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip on October 10 last year.
The Turkish president noted that despite increased violations by Israel, the restraint shown by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has significantly contributed to maintaining the ceasefire.
He stressed that humanitarian aid shipments are gradually continuing despite various restrictions, adding, "We also show our distinction through our humanitarian aid which has exceeded 103,000 tons."
He clarified that "at this stage, our priority remains ensuring the continuity of the ceasefire and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza." Erdoğan emphasized the necessity of starting the reconstruction of Gaza as soon as possible, noting the intense ongoing contacts in Ankara on this matter.
Over the course of two years, starting on October 8, 2023, Israel waged a genocidal war on Gaza that left more than 70,000 Palestinian dead and over 171,000 injured, ending with a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10 of last year, which was breached hundreds of times.
