Khaberni - The Saudi capital Riyadh received the "Global Active City" certificate, thus becoming the first city in the Middle East to achieve this classification. This achievement is attributed to three main factors: enhancing healthy lifestyle options, physical activity, and community well-being, according to what was announced by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.
The Active Well-being Initiative, founded by The Association For International Sport For All and Evaleo with support from the International Olympic Committee, grants the Global Active City certificate to cities that implement specific systems and standards. This initiative aims to enhance healthy, active living and encourage physical activities for all community segments.
In the same context, Riyadh's classification as a "Global Active City" is due to several factors, including the development of infrastructure work which has seen a 100% growth in the past five years thanks to the latest engineering solutions that enhance the city's efficiency. Additionally, the increase in residential transaction volumes in the capital and foreign direct investment stimulation through the Saudi program to attract regional headquarters of global companies contributed to this classification.
Riyadh is the engine of the national economy, contributing approximately 47% to the non-oil, non-governmental GDP in Saudi Arabia, and hosts government agencies, main service sectors, and enjoys an advanced transportation network and an integrated global communication system.
Furthermore, Riyadh is experiencing significant growth in its major projects such as Qiddiya, Diriyah, King Salman Park, and the Riyadh Green Path.
