Khaberni - President Donald Trump surprised political and media circles with a sharp comment on the death of the famous film director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner, after they were found slaughtered inside their mansion in Los Angeles.
In a post on his platform "Truth Social", Trump attributed responsibility to Reiner for what happened, stating that the deceased director suffered from what he described as "Trump Derangement Syndrome," a political term used in right-wing circles to describe intense hostility towards the Republican president.
Trump said that Reiner, whom he described as a "formerly talented director and comedy star," died because of the anger he incited in others due to his incurable and destructive mental condition.
Trump added that Reiner was obsessed with criticizing him, and that this obsession "drove those around him mad," in his words.
According to the "Daily Mail," these statements were considered extremely harsh and rehighlighted Trump's pattern of attacking public figures even after their death, as he had previously done with late Senator John McCain and General Colin Powell.
Trump's recent statements also drew criticism from within the Republican Party. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said what happened was a horrifying family tragedy that should not be politicized, noting that the victims' son was suffering from drug addiction and other issues, and that the remaining family members were living in a state of profound grief and devastation.
She added, "This is not a political matter, but a human tragedy that should be met with compassion."
These statements come at a time when media reports revealed that the couple's son, Nick Reiner (32 years old), was arrested and charged with murder, after being suspected of stabbing his parents to death following a violent family argument inside their mansion worth $13.5 million, on Sunday afternoon.
Preliminary investigations found that the victims' throats had been slashed, and the crime occurred after a severe disagreement with a relative, believed to be the son.
Rob Reiner was one of the most prominent filmmakers in the 1980s and 1990s, leaving a lasting impact with famous works including "Stand By Me," "The Princess Bride," "A Few Good Men," and "When Harry Met Sally".
He was known for his open support for liberal causes and Democratic candidates, and for his strong opposition to Trump, having described him on several occasions as "mentally unfit to hold the presidency".
