Khaberni - More than half of Germans support banning the use of social media for youths under 16, according to a poll conducted by the "INSA" Institute on behalf of the Sunday edition of the widely circulated Bild newspaper. The survey found that 60% of participants support such a ban, while 24% opposed it.
In addition, a total of 10% said they do not care, while 6% did not answer or were unsure.
To conduct the survey, "INSA" conducted interviews with a sample of 1003 people on December 11 and 12, according to the German news agency.
This survey comes at a time when Australia last week implemented new rules restricting the use of social media for young people.
Since December 10, children and teenagers under the age of 16 are no longer allowed to own accounts on many major platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, X, Reddit, and Twitch. The legislation was passed at the end of 2024 and is currently in effect.
