Khaberni - Channel 14 Israeli revealed today, Monday, that the tension between Israel and Egypt has reached a new stage of escalation, pointing out that Cairo has requested the United States to intervene to "rein in" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to the report, Yoni Ben Menachem, an expert in Eastern affairs, described in an interview with the channel, the increasing tension with Egypt as stemming from the Israeli army's activity in what is known as the "Yellow Line", and altering the geographic terrain of the Gaza Strip, which Cairo considers a direct threat to its regional interests.
The channel pointed out that Ben Menachem has warned of the deterioration of Israeli-Egyptian relations, revealing that Washington recently tried to organize a "trilateral summit" that included Trump, Sisi, and Netanyahu in an attempt to contain the crisis, but Egypt set preconditions that Israel rejected, including: complete withdrawal from the Philadelphia Corridor, opening the Rafah crossing in both directions, and the immediate approval of the "major gas deal" (importing gas from the "Leviathan" field).
Ben Menachem explained that Egypt has recently complained to the United States, accusing Israel of working to divide the Gaza Strip into two parts, and changing the demographic and geographic composition of the area, which Cairo sees as a threat to regional stability.
The Israeli expert pointed out that Cairo is very concerned about what is happening in the sector, referring to statements by the Israeli Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir about the "Yellow Line" being considered a new defensive and offensive line, which was treated with great seriousness in Egypt.
He added that the Israeli military's activity in the "Yellow Zone" - which includes destroying tunnel infrastructure and demolishing homes - is interpreted in Cairo as a preparation for establishing a long-term military presence in Gaza, prompting Egypt to take urgent diplomatic steps towards Washington.
Channel 14 reported that the United States did indeed try to organize a trilateral summit in Washington, but the idea clashed with the Egyptian preconditions, which Ben Menachem described as "unacceptable" from an Israeli perspective.
The channel report concluded with Ben Menachem's statement: "This is something that Israel cannot, of course, accept, and thus this tension continues", indicating that Cairo expects Trump to exert pressure during his upcoming meeting with Netanyahu in Florida at the end of the month, to "rein him in" and limit his actions in Gaza.
