Khaberni - The mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, announced the death of two people and eight others seriously injured in a shooting incident at Brown University.
Providence police in Rhode Island reported several injuries in a shooting near Brown University, confirming that investigations are still ongoing.
Other American media reported that up to 20 people were injured.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said, "What happened is unbelievable," adding that his office is in contact with the White House.
The police have advised students and residents in the area to shelter in place or stay away from the area until new instructions are issued. The university administration has also urged students to continue to shelter in place and lock their doors, noting that the police have not yet arrested any suspects.
Brown University is one of the elite institutions among 8 prestigious American universities known for high academic standards, and it has about 11,000 students.
