Lebanese President We do not want war with Israel

Khaberni - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced today, Friday, that Lebanon is fully ready to demarcate its land and maritime borders with Syria as soon as Damascus makes the decision, confirming that the specialized Lebanese committee is formed and ready to start immediately.

Aoun said, while receiving a delegation from the "Journalists for Freedom" association at the Baabda Palace: "France has provided us with accurate maps concerning the borders with Syria, and we are fully prepared to demarcate the borders as soon as the Syrian side decides," according to the Lebanese National News Agency.

He added, "We can establish a committee for land demarcation and another one for maritime demarcation, while the Shebaa Farms, Kfar Chouba hills, and the Lebanese part of Ghajar will be left for the final stage."

In discussing the situation in the south, President Aoun considered that Lebanon has reached a "deadlock militarily" in the confrontation with Israel, wondering: "Is Lebanon capable of enduring a new war? And what are our options in the face of an enemy that occupies our land daily, targets us, and detains our people?"

He added, "In purely military terms, when the army reaches a deadlock in battle, negotiation becomes the available option."

Aoun confirmed, in a meeting with a delegation that included members of the UN Security Council last Friday, that "Lebanon has opted for negotiations with Israel to spare it an additional round of violence."

Aoun explained: "Lebanon is convinced that wars cannot lead to positive outcomes and that only negotiations can create conditions that lead to stability and security, find solutions for outstanding issues, and spare the citizens from suffering."
