Involvement of a Turkish journalist and celebrities in drug use and trafficking

Khaberni - Social media in Turkey has not calmed down for days after the authorities arrested, the day before yesterday, Tuesday, the editor-in-chief of Habertürk channel, Mohammad Akif Ersoy, as part of an investigation related to drug trafficking involving several celebrities.

It became evident that the arrest procedures involved four people, among them Ersoy who is also the main broadcaster on the Turkish channel, although the Istanbul prosecution has not officially announced the names of the other persons involved.

The Istanbul prosecution announced that it is conducting an investigation against 8 suspects on charges of "purchasing, possessing, and using drugs for personal use and providing a place for the use of drugs."

The Istanbul prosecution added in its statement that 4 people, including Ersoy, were arrested during the investigation, and it mentioned the ongoing procedures related to the other suspects.

Social media witnessed various allegations following the campaign, revealing some previously believed Ersoy to have been religious and having Islamic orientations, expressing surprise at the accusations against him regarding drug use and trafficking.

No official statement has been issued about these allegations, but Habertürk channel confirmed the arrest of Ersoy, who is one of the most prominent and famous broadcasters of the channel and media faces in Turkey.

A representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party commented on Ersoy's arrest, where Shamal Tayyar, a former deputy for the ruling party, confirmed that Ersoy's career faced a rapid rise and he will go through a challenging phase professionally after this investigation. He added, saying: "Ersoy's star shone when he was young. He gained special friendships within the state and politics. I believe he was charmed by the allure of fame and money. But he surprised everyone who believed in him."

The Turkish authorities had previously arrested three famous female broadcasters in the country days ago, who are Ella Rumeysa Gebeji, Meltem Ajit, and Handi Sarioglu, as part of a "drug operation," and their statements were taken in court, then they were sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) to undergo necessary examinations.
