Public Security Renews Its Warnings as the Impact of the Low Pressure Intensifies Today

Khaberni - The Public Security Directorate, on Thursday, renewed its warnings to the citizens as the effects of the low-pressure deepen in the kingdom, stressing the necessity of adhering to the preventive guidelines to avoid various types of accidents.

The directorate indicated that the weather conditions require extra caution, emphasizing the need to stay away from the edges of valleys and areas prone to flash floods, especially in low-lying areas such as the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley.

The directorate also advised drivers to be cautious while driving on roads experiencing rainfall, warning of the risk of slipping on the roads. It also requested avoiding risking crossing water gatherings either on foot or by using vehicles.

Regarding heating devices, the directorate emphasized the importance of safe behavior when using them, insisting not to fuel heaters while they are lit, and not to leave them on while sleeping. It also warned of the need to ensure proper ventilation inside homes to avoid risks.

The directorate also warned of reduced horizontal visibility due to dust in the desert areas, and also of fog formation over high mountain peaks and parts of the plains, which may affect visibility and driving safety.

The directorate urged citizens not to hesitate to call the unified emergency number 911 in case of any emergency.

The Ministry of Local Administration directs municipalities to increase readiness to deal with the weather situation

The Ministry of Local Administration reviewed reports from the Meteorological Department and weather maps provided under the early warning system agreement, indicating a low-pressure expected to impact all regions of the kingdom on Thursday, accompanied by heavy thunderstorms in several areas.

The weather maps have shown that the level of risk will be high starting from 2 PM on Thursday until midnight, with a high frequency, especially in the capital Amman, Balqa, Madaba, and Karak, in addition to particular locations depicted in red on the map.

The weather forecasts clarify that the heaviest downpours will occur in Karak, Madaba, south of the capital, and areas of Shuna al-Wusta municipalities, Sweimeh, Naour, Hasban, Umm al-Basateen, Jebel Bani Hamida, Abdallah bin Rawaha and Shihan, Ai, Deir Alla, and Ma'ad, all classified as high-risk areas; due to the possibility of significant and dangerous valley and flash floods.

The ministry confirmed that it has circulated the new maps to the heads of municipal committees, directors of municipal affairs, and heads of joint service councils, calling for field monitoring of critical sites, and ensuring the readiness of valleys, water channels, box culverts, and rainwater drains, insisting that any negligence in implementing required measures or monitoring critical sites will expose the transgressors to accountability.

It is noted that the ministry previously directed the necessity of activating emergency rooms and direct coordination with administrative governors, Civil Defense, and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing; to ensure the highest levels of readiness and to protect the lives and properties of citizens.

The ministry in the areas indicated in red and yellow urged to take caution and beware, avoid stream courses and valleys, not risk crossing roads exposed to flooding, and to follow the instructions issued by the relevant authorities; to preserve public safety.
