Spain calls to raise the voice so that the tragic situation of the Palestinians is not forgotten

Khaberni - On Wednesday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called to "raise the voice" so that "the tragic situation of the Palestinians" is not forgotten, during his reception of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Madrid.

Sanchez reiterated the necessity of moving forward with the two-state solution as the "only possible solution" to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He pledged to advance the two-state solution by "raising the voice so that the tragic situation of the Palestinian people is not forgotten."

Sanchez continued: "Yes, there is a ceasefire agreement, but this agreement must be real, it cannot be merely procedural. Therefore, we will not rest as long as attacks against the population have not ceased, and consequently, the falling of victims stops."

The Spanish Prime Minister affirmed his "support" for the Palestinian Authority, which should "play a central and crucial role" in devising "the governance mechanisms that will determine the future of the Palestinian people."

He added, "This year, which is nearing its end, has been terrible for the Palestinian people."

Sanchez added, "In order to revive hope, we need real peace. And this real peace must be based on justice. Therefore, I want to state clearly (...) that those responsible for this genocide will be held accountable sooner or later, so that the victims can receive justice, compensation, and some form of solace."

For his part, Abbas thanked Spain, which recognized the state of Palestine in May 2024, "for its pioneering role, and the efforts to establish an international coalition aimed at expanding the circle of recognition of our state," also calling for an end to violence in all its forms in Gaza and the West Bank.

Spain strongly supports the Palestinian cause and is among the most vocal European countries in criticizing the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
