How many points does Liverpool need to qualify for the top eight in the Champions League

Khaberni - Liverpool is performing well in the UEFA Champions League competitions, as it has come close to qualifying for the next round, after achieving a precious 1-0 away victory over Inter Milan at San Siro on Tuesday, as part of the league stage of this prestigious tournament.

Liverpool entered the game with only 9 points, being in the thirteenth place, while Inter Milan was in fourth place with 12 points.

The result of the game was a difficult victory for Arne Slot's troops, thanks to a penalty by Dominik Szoboszlai in the 86th minute.

Compared to last season's version of the UEFA Champions League league stage, teams needed at least 16 points to secure direct qualification to the round of 16 of the tournament, and this could be considered for the current season.

This season, teams will need the same number of points or the situation will not change much, in order to obtain a direct qualification ticket to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool has increased its score to 12 points out of 18, placing it in a strong position to be among the top eight in the league stage standings.

The Reds have two more matches in the league stage, against Olympique Marseille and Qarabag, in the seventh and eighth rounds, in January next.

Thus, Liverpool has the right to determine its destiny, needing only 4 points to reach the minimum number of points required for direct qualification to the UEFA Champions League.

Consideration should also be given to the goal difference issue, as Liverpool needs to have a distinguished record in this regard if resorting to that option when equal in points with more than one team, to determine the direct qualifiers.
