Accusation of Infantino violating political neutrality in FIFA

British media stated that Fair Square, a nonprofit concerned with the rights of global migrant workers and monitoring political violations in sports, filed an official complaint with FIFA's Ethics Committee.

The Athletic explained that the organization accuses FIFA president Gianni Infantino of committing what it described as repeated violations of the duty of political neutrality.

It stated: "The organization in its complaint calls for a comprehensive investigation into how U.S. President Donald Trump was chosen to receive the first FIFA Peace Award."

It added: "The Swiss Gianni Infantino, president of the International Football Association, faces direct accusations of violating the principle of political neutrality as stipulated in the regulations of the organization he leads, where Fair Square points out that the decision raised significant questions, both in terms of the nomination process and the criteria used in granting the award, especially given the lack of clear information about Infantino 's role in the process and whether he had intervened directly or indirectly."

The organization continues: "This type of decision might weaken the international sports community's confidence in FIFA 's commitment to ethical standards and independence that it claims to adhere to."

It went on: "This complaint comes at a time when "FIFA" is under increasing pressure from international entities demanding greater transparency and accountability, especially in matters affecting institutional integrity."

Fair Square says its goal is to enhance governance within major sports institutions, and to prevent their use in a way that could harm individual rights or politicize sports contrary to its principles.
