Extensive Investigations After the Death of a University Graduate Who Purchased a Toxic Substance from a ProSuicide Forum

Khaberni - The family of a university graduate from Leeds University demanded an official investigation into her death, after the family alleged that she consumed a substance she obtained from an online forum promoting suicide, as reported today in a preliminary hearing for the investigation into the death.

It is believed that the student, Grace Nevins (22 years old), a Leeds University graduate, consumed the substance after participating in discussions on an "electronic suicide forum". The session held at County Hall in her hometown of Morpeth, Northumberland, was informed that she was able to purchase the substance that caused her death.

The family's lawyer, Alison Siman, said that Grace's parents and sister Lucy are concerned about the absence of a criminal investigation, especially given evidence suggesting that the seller may have been aware of her plans. She noted that Grace was suffering from a mental health crisis and was receiving medication in hopes of recovery, according to the Mirror.

Chief investigator Andrew Heatherington explained that there are ongoing investigations around Kenneth Low, a former chef from Toronto, suspected of sending about 1200 packages containing hazardous materials to over 40 countries since late 2020, linked by the British National Crime Agency to 99 deaths. Low is charged with 14 counts of first-degree murder and facilitating suicide, and his trial is scheduled for January 2026.

The family, in collaboration with the "Molly Rose" foundation, demanded a comprehensive investigation into the online forum that promoted suicide and the substance linked to hundreds of deaths in the UK. They also wanted the investigation to include whether the paramedics were equipped with an antidote for the substance's effects, pointing out that a package of the substance was found in Grace's room when the paramedics arrived two minutes after contacting the emergency services on November 4, 2024.

As part of commemorating Grace's memory and raising awareness about mental health, the Leeds University Athletics Association announced the organization of a "22 km in 22 hours" event. Her close friend, Caitlin Mens, said: "Grace was funny and giving, always ready to help others, and she left a significant impact on everyone who knew her."

A preliminary date for the investigation into Grace's death has been set for March 5 and 6, 2026, during which Kenneth Low remains detained in Canada awaiting his trial, according to CBC.
