Khaberni - New leaks suggest that Apple's first foldable iPhone will abandon the traditional "SIM" card slot for telecommunications in favor of the electronic "eSIM".
Apple is expected to unveil the phone, which is said to be named "iPhone Fold", in late next year or early 2027.
The "iPhone Fold" will feature an external screen measuring 5.5 inches and a book-like design that opens to reveal an internal screen of approximately 7.8 inches resembling an iPad mini, according to a report by "MacRumors", a website specialized in technology news, reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business".
The foldable iPhone will be extremely thin and resemble two ultra-slim iPhone Air models placed side by side, therefore, internal storage capacity will be very limited.
The leaks suggest that the foldable iPhone will come without a traditional "SIM" card slot, and will support only the electronic "eSIM" card instead, which aligns with previous expectations.
This will pose a challenge for iPhone Fold in China, where users strongly prefer the traditional "SIM" chip. The culture of reselling and rapidly experiencing devices in China necessitates quick chip transfers, meaning that the foldable phone relying on "eSIM" only will need to provide smooth services from telecom companies significantly.
Apple recognizes these obstacles; as the iPhone Air, which relied only on "eSIM" technology for similar reasons related to storage space, depends on specialized support from major Chinese telecom companies, allowing the phone to activate two "eSIM" chips, yet activation still requires a store visit.
