Fadi Khafajas First Comment After Sentencing to Imprisonment in Magdy Kamel Defamation Case

Khaberni - Egyptian artist Fadi Khafaja commented for the first time on the verdict issued to imprison him in the case filed against him by artist Magdy Kamel, announcing his desire to end the dispute and calling for "reconciliation and calming of spirits."

Khafaja said in a video he posted on his "Facebook" account: "I thank everyone who asked about me and checked on my condition. I have appealed the sentence, and I hope there is good in what is to come. As for Dr. Magdy, I have nothing but love for him, as he is my teacher, and I pray to God to guide our spirits."

Crisis Details

The Cairo Economic Court, on Monday, November 24, sentenced Khafaja to six months in prison and fined him 20,000 Egyptian pounds for defaming and slandering artist Magdy Kamel, husband of artist Maha Ahmed. Magdy Kamel’s defense also demanded civil compensation of 100,000 Egyptian pounds for the damages they said were inflicted on their client due to "public insults" attributed to Khafaja.

Magdy Kamel and his wife Maha Ahmed had filed an official complaint with the Giza Security Directorate, accusing Khafaja of insult and verbal abuse through video clips and statements circulated on the internet, prompting the relevant authorities to take legal action and refer the file to the judiciary.

The roots of the crisis date back to a confrontation during a live broadcast on "TikTok" involving Maha Ahmed and Fadi Khafaja, where public disagreements escalated between them, eventually leading to the exchange of statements considered offensive, moving the confrontation from the realm of digital altercation to a full legal course.

In subsequent statements, Maha Ahmed confirmed that she had filed several lawsuits against Khafaja on charges related to defamation, slander, and privacy violation. Concurrently, Magdy Kamel filed a separate lawsuit accusing Khafaja of direct and public insult, calling for necessary legal actions to be taken.
