Khaberni - The Artistic Works Censorship announced the imminent return of the film «Confessions of the Tagamoa Killer» to theaters, after fulfilling the necessary censorship modifications.
The censorship body, in an official statement, stated that its decision to temporarily withdraw the film was not against the artwork itself but was in the framework of enforcing regulating laws, emphasizing its keenness to support artistic creativity while maintaining societal constants and adhering to ethical standards stipulated by the law.
The statement pointed out that the crisis arose due to various violations detected by the censorship committee, most notably that the shown version of the film included scenes and elements that were not present in the originally licensed screenplay, which necessitated the deletion of some shots and phrases to conform with censorship rating standards.
The censorship also pointed to the release of a promotional trailer (promo) for the film on the Internet without obtaining a permit, which included the same scenes that were censored, leading to the withdrawal of the copies from cinemas to ensure that these shots were not shown to the public.
In a related context, the statement clarified that the promotional poster circulated on social networking sites bore the phrase "Inspired by true events" without a license, although the production company confirmed that the work is not directly linked to the character "Tagamoa Killer," which may open the door to legal issues related to associating the work with actual criminal events.
Accordingly, censorship decided to temporarily withdraw the exhibition license, pending the review of the final version and ensuring that all required modifications have been implemented, along with adjusting the promotional materials to comply with the regulating laws.
The censorship confirmed that the film would be allowed to be re-released as soon as these procedures are completed, achieving a balance between artistic creativity freedom and protecting the public interest, and full compliance with the legal standards regulating the cinema industry in Egypt.
