Khaberni - FCC Chairman Brendan Carr denounced the European Union's imposition of a large fine on Elon Musk's social media company "X" on Friday for violating EU internet content rules.

Carr said in a post on platform X: "Once again, Europe is fining a successful American technology company simply for being successful," according to Reuters.

The American official added, "Europe imposes taxes on Americans to support a continent hampered by its own stifling regulations."

The EU technology regulators imposed a fine of 120 million euros (140 million dollars) on platform X for breaking internet content rules.

The EU's penalty came after a two-year investigation under the Union's Digital Services Act, which requires online platforms to make more effort to tackle illegal and harmful content.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has long criticized Europe's strict campaign against major technology companies to ensure smaller competitors can compete and offer consumers more choices, alleging that it targets American companies and imposes censorship on Americans.

The European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, says that its laws do not target any nationality, and they aim only to protect its digital and democratic standards, which are often considered a model for the rest of the world to follow.
