Khaberni - The Swedish music and podcast streaming company "Spotify" is heading into the world of fitness apps by offering "guided workout experiences" and on-demand classes from "Peloton", as the company seeks to become a comprehensive, multi-use application.
Premium subscribers to "Spotify" will have access to Peloton's library which includes more than 1,400 lessons within the Spotify app, while all subscribers, including those using the free service, can browse curated playlists listed under the "fitness" category.
"Spotify" stated that the lessons will be primarily offered in English, with some options available in Spanish and German, according to a report by "Engadget", a website specialized in technology news, which was reviewed by "Alarabiya Business".
Like with music and podcasts, "Spotify" allows navigating between different devices for fitness content, where a user can start a video workout on the television then switch to an audio-only version on their phone or smart speaker.
Users can also download the lessons to listen to them offline.
The fitness category may seem like a sudden shift for Spotify, but the company mentioned that nearly 70% of premium subscribers exercise monthly, and fitness and workout content is among the top use cases for the "suggested playlists" feature.
"Spotify" had recently expanded beyond the scope of music, as its latest services allow users to purchase physical books or create group chats.
