The Yasser Abu Shabab group confirmed his death during a clash between its members and gunmen from a tribe residing in the east of Rafah city.

The group "Popular Forces" stated: "We mourn our general leader Yasser Abu Shabab, founder of the Popular Forces in Gaza Strip, who got killed by a gunshot while he was in the field as usual, trying to resolve a dispute between members of Abu Suneima family"

They added: "There is no truth to any of the misleading news claiming that he was killed by remnants of the terrorist Hamas gang, as they are too weak to harm him".

The Tarabin tribe, to which Yasser Abu Shabab belongs, said, "Two members of the Abu Suneima and Dbari clan approached Yasser to release a detained person, and according to the data, the request was refused in a manner described as humiliating, which led to rapid tension".

They added in a statement that "one of the tribe's members returned carrying a weapon and fired randomly, injuring a number of people, among them Yasser and his deputy Ghassan Dheini, who is injured and hospitalized in Israel".
