Khaberni - Continuing its leadership role and its vigorous efforts in reinforcing the principles of inclusion, diversity, and equity; Zain Jordan has launched its comprehensive accessibility guide for its employees and customers with disabilities, which aims to ensure providing an environment free of barriers, thereby becoming one of the first companies in the Kingdom to take an active step towards empowering and integrating people with disabilities and ensuring all its buildings and facilities comply with the building code requirements for people with disabilities.
The launch of the comprehensive guide coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which occurs on the third of December each year, to reinforce Zain's firm commitment to providing an inclusive, accessible, and easy-to-use work environment, and to promote the culture of integration, inclusion, and equity in all its services and initiatives. This guide embodies the practical application of the principles of equality and equal opportunities that Zain believes in and reflects its leadership role in supporting and empowering people with disabilities through infrastructure readiness and integration in various operations, programs, and projects.
Zain Jordan confirmed that this move cements its leadership in this aspect of the Jordanian private sector, by providing a comprehensive practical framework that enables departments and suppliers to achieve 100% full accessibility in all company facilities. The guide was developed in collaboration with experts specialized in comprehensive accessibility to be a reliable reference in the design, implementation, and management of facilities according to the highest international standards, ensuring that all company facilities, as well as its services and initiatives, are designed to meet the needs of various community segments, committed to building a more inclusive and equitable society.
Zain Jordan includes people with disabilities in all its programs, initiatives, and services through an integrated set of innovative initiatives and services. In 2015, the company launched the "Al Basmah" line designed for the deaf community, which offers video calls with a direct connection to the Command and Control Center at the Directorate of Public Security on the emergency number 114. The company has also supported the emergency call application for deaf people on smartphones and has, over the years, supported its Paralympic champions annually.
In regards to its employees, the company trains its employees in sign language to ensure effective communication with customers and colleagues with disabilities and provides immediate sign language translation services in all its showrooms across the Kingdom. Recently, Zain in partnership with Royal Jordanian provided immediate translation services in Royal Jordanian offices to facilitate the travel experience for people with hearing disabilities and also launched its digital library on the YouTube platform to teach the basics of Jordanian sign language.
In a step considered the first of its kind in the region, Zain made mobile phone service contracts available in sign language for its subscribers with hearing and visual disabilities. The company provides all its employees with disabilities with assistive technologies to support work and efficient use of services independently. Zain was awarded by the Essl Foundation at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna in 2018 in recognition of its development of an innovative ecosystem to support the deaf community locally.
