Khaberni - The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship confirmed yesterday that the service of government insurance cards for treatment at the Al Hussein Cancer Center is now technically available through the "Sanad" application starting from yesterday, pointing out that all citizens can obtain the cards, which will be electronic via the application.
The Ministry explained that its role through the "Sanad" application represents the first step to obtain the new service, which consists of providing the electronic card carrying a "QR Code" for later use, according to Al-Ghad.
It confirmed that obtaining the card is possible through "Sanad" with easy steps, thus the citizen must have an activated account with a digital identity on the application, which is a smart application that can be easily downloaded through the electronic stores for smartphones (iOS, Android, and Huawei).
In turn, the director of the "Sanad" application in the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Mohammad Batayekh, said that with the launch of the new service, the citizen covered by the governmental health insurance at Al Hussein Cancer Center can get his card without going to review any center; it is now available in his documents on the "Sanad" application if his digital identity is activated.
He explained that the steps required to obtain "Sanad" require the user first to enter the application using his personal account, then move to the "My Documents" menu on the main interface, and choose the insurance card for care at Al Hussein Cancer Center among the available documents, whether for the citizen himself or for his family and children, then press the download icon and wait until the card is successfully saved on the device.
Batayekh said that after the download, the card will be available on the user's phone through the Sanad app, and it is an electronic card containing a "QR Code" that will be used later by the relevant authorities to verify the information and data of the beneficiary.
With the launch of the service of obtaining the health insurance card through "Sanad," an electronic platform was also launched to inquire about the governmental insurance for treatment at the Al Hussein Cancer Center via the link cancer-insurance.gov.jo, to enable citizens to directly verify insurance using the national number, and facilitate access to insurance information and services.
It is worth mentioning that the number of internet users in Jordan currently exceeds 11 million users, most of them use the network through smartphones, and the number of "Sanad" users is 2 million.
The "Sanad" app is a smart application available on smartphones and represents an electronic gateway to access various digital government services needed by the citizen in his daily life, so the service of obtaining health insurance has been added, where one can log in using one username and password instead of multiple passwords, it also allows for creating a digital identity that enables access to a citizen's digital governmental documents, apply for governmental and private sector services, as well as access to personal records, digitally sign documents, and pay bills. An agreement was signed between the government and the Hussein Cancer Foundation last June to implement the governmental insurance program for treatment in the center, and to determine the mechanisms for providing the service according to an approach that ensures the clarity, fairness, and sustainability of procedures.
This system's adoption is part of the government's efforts to enhance social protection principles, which represents a significant shift in health care provision and guaranteeing its continuity for the most needy groups.
The governmental insurance includes about 4.1 million citizens at a cost of 124 million dinars allocated by the government from the 2026 budget, while the Hussein Cancer Foundation bears the remaining cost of about 8.5 million dinars.
The beneficiary categories include all Jordanians aged 19 and under and aged 60 and above who are not covered by military or private health insurance, in addition to beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund and their families of all ages who are not covered by military health insurance.
The Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Mohannad Shehadeh, announced yesterday the start of implementing a decision taken by the government in last April, by signing an agreement with the Hussein Cancer Foundation to insure 4.1 million citizens at a cost of 124 million dinars allocated from the 2026 budget, while the Hussein Cancer Foundation bears the remaining cost of about 8.5 million dinars.
Shehadeh explained that the government's goal with this insurance is to enhance the principle of social protection, as it is an important part of the government's program within the vision of modernization during the past years, where it was based on a system of exemptions, and has transitioned from exemptions to health insurance.
