Khaberni - Dr. Yousef Shawarbeh, the Chairman of the Greater Amman Municipality, today, Tuesday, presided over the launch of the "No Smoking Building" signage project at the main entrances of the Greater Amman Municipality buildings, as a practical step that embodies the Royal directives aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens, and completes the implementation of the Amman Municipality’s smoking control action plan derived from the National Tobacco and Smoking Control Strategy 2024-2030.
This project serves as an official declaration making all buildings and facilities of the municipality smoke-free zones, thereby enhancing its commitment to providing a healthy and safe environment for employees and visitors.
On his part, Shawarbeh said that the Amman Municipality is working on developing institutional programs that elevate the level of services and improve the lives of citizens, noting that this initiative is part of the Greater Amman Municipality's commitment to its mission to provide distinguished and smart municipal services that preserve community health, striving through it to establish the concept of "Amman as a healthy city" as one of the main pillars in its strategic plan.
The launch included the installation of the first large guidance signs at the main entrance to the municipality building and the entrance to the Abdali building, and the installation process will continue to include all buildings and facilities belonging to the municipality in the coming period.
The plan includes completing the installation of 200 medium-sized guidance signs at the entrances of all the municipality buildings and parks, in addition to distributing 2686 small signs inside offices and corridors, to ensure complete coverage and enhance visual awareness of the smoking ban in all corners of the municipality.
The installation of the signs is part of the comprehensive efforts of the Amman Municipality to enhance public health and solidify the concept of "Amman as a healthy city", as this measure is an extension of a series of actions from the smoking control action plan, which includes intensifying inspection campaigns, organizing awareness lectures, and providing free clinics for smoking cessation.
