Khaberni - Syrian media outlets and activists reported that Sheikh Raed Al-Matni was killed two days after his arrest by the "National Guard" in the southern Syrian city of Sweida, predominantly Druze.

The outlets, quoting their sources, stated, "The body of Sheikh Raed Al-Matni arrived at the Sweida National Hospital two days after his arrest," as media outlets covering the city's news confirmed.

In recent days, activists and social media users have been sharing a video showing Sheikh Al-Matni being insulted and beaten during his arrest by gunmen in Sweida, which sparked a wave of anger among Syrians.

The so-called "National Guard," affiliated with one of the Druze Unitarian community's spiritual leaders, Hikmat Al-Hijri, had launched a security campaign in Sweida during which more than five citizens were arrested, and the home of the city's Director of Internal Security, Suleiman Abdul Baqi, was raided, speaking of thwarting a "conspiracy" involving a group of "losers" in "coordination with Damascus."
Among the arrested were Sheikh Raed Al-Matni, Marwan Rizq, Asim and Gandhi Fakhreddin, in addition to Suleiman and Alam Edin Zidan.
