Khaberni - A doctor in the British National Health Service (NHS) revealed that consuming a specific type of sour candy may help temporarily reduce feelings of anxiety.

Dr. Raj Arora, who appeared on the program This Morning on ITV channel, explained that the sensory experience resulting from consuming sour candy works to distract attention from an anxiety or panic attack, giving a person a sense of calm for a short period.

She said in a clip on TikTok (@drrajarora): "When feeling an anxiety attack, shifting or distracting attention can be very effective. Eating very sour candy provides a strong sensory experience that helps calm you and redirect your attention away from anxiety."

However, Arora emphasized that this method is not a long-term treatment, warning against overconsumption of candy due to its high content of processed sugars, according to the Mirror newspaper.

For those looking for healthier alternatives, Arora recommended grounding techniques to alleviate anxiety, such as:

Walking on grass or touching the ground with your feet
Holding a piece of ice in your hand
Practicing breathing exercises
She concluded her advice by saying: "Sour candy is a quick and simple way to distract, but it is not a long-term solution. If you are suffering from anxiety, it is better to consult a doctor for appropriate treatment and effective management of the condition."
