Khaberni - Two detainees managed to escape from a prison in the city of Dijon, eastern France, after they cut through the bars of their cell and descended using ropes made from bed sheets to breathe in the air of freedom.
The two men, aged 19 and 32, were being held in pre-trial detention, according to the «BFM TV» station today (Thursday), citing prosecutors.
The young man (19 years old) is under investigation for attempting to carry out a murder for hire, and belonging to a criminal organization. He has a criminal record, while the second man (32 years old) is charged with threatening and using severe violence against his partner.
The detainees managed to escape just before dawn, according to the prison workers' union.
The union added, in its statement, that it had pointed out security deficiencies in the prison months ago, which were ignored by the authorities.
In a separate case, the police arrested another escaped prisoner who took advantage of a trip organized for prisoners to visit an astronomical dome to escape from a prison in the city of Rennes, west of the country, according to media reports, while the prison director was suspended.
