Khaberni - Amnesty International stated that Israel continues to commit genocide in Gaza by deliberately maintaining living conditions intended to physically destroy them, with no indication of changing its intentions.
In a brief report, the organization presented a legal analysis of what it described as ongoing genocide, in addition to testimonies from residents, medical teams, and humanitarian workers highlighting the harsh living conditions currently endured by Palestinians in the area.
The Secretary-General of the organization, Agnès Callamard, stated that the ceasefire might suggest that life in Gaza is returning to normal, but the reality is completely different. According to her, the reduction in Israeli attacks and the limited allowance of humanitarian aid does not mean that the genocide has stopped.
In December 2024, the organization published a detailed study confirming that Israel commits genocide through killing Palestinians and causing them harm, and deliberately subjecting them to living conditions meant to annihilate them, in clear violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
The organization says the situation has not witnessed any substantial change despite the reduction in the scale of attacks and the occurrence of limited improvements, and there is no evidence yet on a change of intent by the Israeli authorities.
According to the organization, 374 people, including 136 children, have been killed since the ceasefire was announced on October 9, while Israel continues to restrict the entry of humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and infrastructure repair materials, violating orders of the International Court of Justice issued as part of the lawsuit filed by South Africa to stop the genocide.
The organization warned that the current conditions could lead to the destruction of the Palestinian population, especially with their increased vulnerability to diseases and the outbreak of epidemics after months of famine and total siege.
The organization points out that Israel still prevents the entry of equipment needed to remove debris, treat sewage, and repair infrastructure, posing a significant threat to public health and the environment. It also imposes restrictions on the distribution of aid by specifying the organizations authorized to deliver it.
The organization adds that the Israeli military currently controls about 58% of the area of the Gaza Strip, and that Palestinians are systematically displaced from fertile areas, while being denied access to the sea and the recovery of agricultural lands and livestock destroyed over the past two years, which means they lack basic livelihoods.
Callamard concluded by saying that the ceasefire should not become a cover for the continuation of genocide, stressing the need for continued international pressure, allowing the entry of human rights observers and journalists, and urging companies to stop any activities that may contribute to the Israeli crimes.
She clarified that the Israeli officials involved in the genocide are still in their positions, and the absence of accountability gives them the freedom to continue committing violations in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The organization emphasized that the international community cannot remain idle, and stopping the genocide requires immediate and decisive international action.
