Khaberni - Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, unveiled the features of a new device that is based entirely on artificial intelligence but comes with an unconventional idea: no screen, and designed to be a quieter, less distracting daily companion in an era where smart devices have become synonymous with digital noise.
During an event organized by the Emerson Collective in San Francisco, Altman appeared alongside the famous designer Jony Ive, former chief designer at Apple, to talk about a joint project aimed at breaking the traditional logic of smartphones and providing a simpler, more profound experience, according to tomsguide.
Altman described the anticipated device as small, pocket-sized, and wearable, specially designed to avoid the noise of the digital world, stating that using current devices is like "walking through Times Square in New York, amid bright lights and sounds and non-stop notifications."
He explained that technology today has become based on the pursuit of dopamine through constant notifications and alerts, which robs people of their focus and peace of mind, pointing out that the new device comes as an alternative to this digital chaos.
Atmosphere of calm instead of disturbance
According to Altman, the new device is supposed to give the user a feeling akin to "sitting in a beautiful cabin by a lake in the mountains, amidst complete stillness and serenity," where the device only provides information when it is actually useful, relying on what he described as an "amazing contextual awareness of the user's entire life," which makes it understand when to interact and when to be silent.
Altman confirmed that the user "will begin to trust it over time," with its ability to know the most appropriate timing for interaction evolving.
Simplicity is the pinnacle of intelligence
For his part, Jony Ive noted that the design philosophy is based on presenting a device that appears simple on the surface but is deeply intelligent and complex in depth, adding: "I love products that don’t make you feel intimidated or complicated, but instead make you want to touch and use them without thinking.. as if it’s a natural tool in your hands."
The team revealed that a prototype of the device might emerge in less than two years, without announcing any details yet regarding its price or launch date in the markets.
