Khaberni - A 65-year-old Thai woman surprised her family and the workers at a temple when she moved inside her coffin just moments before the commencement of her cremation ceremony, despite her family believing she had died two days earlier.
The woman, Chonthirut, was brought to Wat Rat Prakhong Tham temple near Bangkok in a white coffin after her brother had transported her from Phitsanulok, nearly 500 kilometers away, believing she had passed away after years of illness and bedridden.
During the coffin's removal from the truck, one of the temple workers heard a faint knocking sound and a weak voice coming from inside. When he uncovered it, he was surprised to find slight movement in the lady's arms and head, while she was breathing weakly and unable to speak.
Perat Sudthop, a temple official, said everyone was shocked when they saw her slowly open her eyes, adding, "It seems she had been knocking on the coffin for a while without anyone hearing her."
According to her brother Mongkol (57 years old), he found her motionless at their home early Sunday morning and assumed she had died, especially since she hadn't moved for two years due to her illness. He added, "I was shocked and happy at the same time.. I didn’t expect her to be alive, it felt like a miracle."
The workers quickly called an ambulance, which transported her to a nearby hospital, while the temple announced that it would cover all her medical expenses.
