Khaberni - Today's House of Representatives session witnessed a debate under the dome between the Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, Mohammed Al-Khalaileh, and MP Ali Al-Khalaileh, during the discussion of an amendment bill for the Notary Law for the year 2025, referred to the Legal Committee.
MP Ali Al-Khalaileh objected to the provisions of the law regarding the formation of the so-called "Islamic Waqf Council", stating that he was surprised by the council being granted the powers to manage millions of Waqf funds Khaberni, noting that the Hajj fund owns more than 40 million dinars, and described the legislation as "flimsy and unacceptable". He also called for the establishment of an Islamic bank as an alternative to the council.
On his part, Minister Mohammed Al-Khalaileh responded Khaberni: "I do not know what the relationship of the Hajj fund and its money has to do with the Waqf Council, and there is no connection between them."
He added that the Waqf Council includes scholarly figures such as the Mufti of the Kingdom, the Imam of the Hashemite Court, and the Chief Qadi, affirming that the members are not in the council to receive financial rewards.
