President of the European Commission Ukraines borders cannot be changed by force or its army reduced

Khaberni - The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that Ukraine's borders cannot be changed by force, nor can its army be reduced and left vulnerable to attack, and that the European Union must play a major role in a peace agreement for Ukraine.

Von der Leyen's statement on Sunday comes at a time when senior officials from the United States and Ukraine are holding talks with national security advisors from France, Britain, and Germany in Geneva to discuss a draft of Washington's plan to end the war in Ukraine.

The President of the European Commission said in a statement: "Any credible and sustainable peace plan must first and foremost aim to stop the killing and put an end to the war without creating pretexts for future conflict."

She added: "We agreed on the key elements necessary to achieve a fair and lasting peace and Ukraine's sovereignty. Let me highlight three of them. First, borders cannot be changed by force."

She continued: "Second, as a sovereign state, restrictions cannot be imposed on the Ukrainian armed forces that would leave the country vulnerable to future attacks and thereby undermine European security as well."

Von der Leyen stated: "Third, the centrality of the European Union in achieving peace for Ukraine must be fully reflected. Ukraine must have the freedom and the sovereign right to choose its destiny. They have chosen a European destiny."
