Khaberni - Mahmoud Ashour, the spokesperson for forensic evidence in Gaza, announced that the medical teams identified only 90 bodies out of 330 for martyrs delivered by Israel to the Palestinian side since the ceasefire took effect in the Gaza Strip.

Ashour told Al Jazeera Net, "We feel helpless in the situation of not identifying the bodies of the missing, and international entities need to intervene to provide forensic laboratory equipment."

He confirmed that the medical teams rely on forensic imaging and observations of relatives to identify the bodies and said that there is a need for scientific laboratories to examine fingerprints and DNA.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza had earlier launched an online link containing selected images "that respect the dignity of the deceased and do not invade their privacy", aimed at giving families the opportunity to remotely identify their relatives before they move to hospitals.

The ministry confirmed that Israel has not provided the International Committee of the Red Cross with lists of names or identities of the bodies.

It noted that some body carried signs of gunshot wounds to the chest and head, others bore shrapnel and fractures in the skull and limbs, in addition to decomposed cases and others that were frozen, complicating the process of examination and documentation.

Due to a lack of sufficient refrigeration facilities, the ministry resorted to burying the bodies whose identities could not be recognized in cemeteries for the unknown, keeping the photos in anticipation of any future documentation or matching process.

The genocide initiated by Israel on October 7, 2023, and continued for two years, resulted in more than 69,000 Palestinian martyrs and over 170,000 injured, with massive destruction that affected 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
