Khaberni - All lessons were halted on Saturday in the schools of the city of Ain Draham, northwest Tunisia, after the start of snowfall and a drop in temperatures.
The decision to suspend study in the primary, preparatory, and secondary schools was made to ensure the safety of the students, amid warnings for road users to take caution and care while driving, especially with the beginning of snow accumulation in the city's highlands, which exceeded 6 centimeters thickness since dawn on Saturday.
The highlands of the Ghar Dammaou area belonging to the governorship of Jendouba also witnessed snowfall during the night between Friday and Saturday, amidst normal traffic flow on the roads. The civil protection urged drivers to reduce speed, use caution lights, and take necessary precautions while driving.
The snow covered the mountains of Ain Draham and its villages adjacent to the mountains, including houses perched on the peaks of Khmir mountains, known for their dense forests of pine, oak, cork, and beech trees, giving a charming winter scene to the area.
The National Institute of Meteorology confirmed the continuation of the low-pressure system over the coming days, with expected snowfall on the western highlands northwest of Tunisia, and heavy thunderstorms in the extreme northwest, along with generally cold weather in the rest of the country's regions.
