Khaberni - The Libyan Attorney General's office announced the detention of two intelligence officers on remand, after proving their involvement in the murder of agency member Ahmad Abdul Azim Al-Arbed.
The statement said that on November 15, members of the Souq al-Khamis police station found the victim's body inside a mechanized vehicle "damaged due to a fire outbreak in it".
The statement confirmed that the Public Prosecutor conducted a transfer followed by investigative procedures aimed at understanding the cause of the victim's death, indicating that these procedures resulted in identifying the victim and confirming "the use of a direct heat source to set the vehicle on fire after gunfire that led to the death of the victim due to injuries to his head and chest".
The statement reported that the initial investigation into the perpetrators, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor, led the evidence from the procedures to identify two suspects from the intelligence services officers.
It added that the Al-Khoms Security Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Department, supported by the Joint Operations Force, managed, after lifting the procedural restrictions related to their legal status, to apprehend the suspects and bring them to the Public Prosecutor.
The statement confirmed that the Chief Prosecutor of Al-Khoms Primary informed the suspects "of the facts and the law attributed to them," noting that they recorded their confession of committing the incident, including "luring the victim to one of their houses for the purpose of killing him, transporting his body to another place on the public road using the victim's vehicle, and setting it on fire to make it appear that the death was the result of a traffic accident."
Based on the conclusions of the investigations, the investigator ordered the detention of the suspects on remand, according to the statement from the Libyan Attorney General's office.
