Coffee with Cockroaches A New Beverage Causes a Stir in China Whats the Story

Khaberni - An entomology museum in the Chinese capital, Beijing, offered its visitors an unusual experience by introducing a coffee drink based on dried cockroach powder with yellow slices of mealworms.

The drink is sold at 45 yuan, and has attracted a number of visitors in recent weeks who wanted to experience the unconventional flavor.

The drink includes a light layer of cockroach powder added after grinding, while the base relies on regular coffee mixed with dried worms.

Customers reported the taste tends towards a burnt flavor with a slight acidity, and the staff explained that this type of coffee was launched at the end of June before it dominated social media sites among youth looking for new experiences.

The museum continues to offer other options in its series of insect-themed beverages, including one based on the juice of a carnivorous plant, and another that contains ants and is only offered during the Halloween season.

Staff confirmed that all ingredients are purchased from traditional Chinese medicine stores, ensuring the safety of the materials used.

The drink has seen limited popularity, as the store sells more than 10 cups daily, but family turnout has been weak due to aversion to cockroaches.

A Chinese blogger also shared his experience after tasting the drink to fulfill his followers' request, noting that it was less bizarre than expected, yet the idea sparked a broad controversy and a large number of users expressed their reluctance to try it.
