Khaberni - The book about star Robert Lewandowski revealed that Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, asked the Polish striker to stop scoring goals in the 2022-2023 season to avoid paying a financial bonus to Bayern Munich.
The book "Lewandowski.. The Truth" caused a stir when it was revealed that Joan Laporta summoned the Polish international to the club’s office along with Barcelona’s managers, and asked him to stop scoring goals.
According to the book, Barcelona had already clinched the Spanish league title before the end of the competition, and the striker had excelled in that season. He was called to the office after one of the training sessions to meet with Laporta and some executive directors of the club, and he was told: Robert, we want you to stop scoring goals in the final matches.
The player looked at them in astonishment, as no one had ever asked him to stop scoring goals throughout his career.
The Catalan club was required to pay an additional 2.5 million euros to Bayern Munich according to a clause in his contract stipulating that if the Polish player exceeds 25 goals in the Spanish league, Barcelona must pay the amount to the German team, which Lewandowski could have accomplished having already scored 23 goals.
