Khaberni - The occupying government announced the inauguration of a water management project that pumps desalinated sea water into Lake Tiberias, in the context of the entity's efforts to confront drought and climate changes.
The government said that the "pioneering" project is based on pumping desalinated Mediterranean sea water into Lake Tiberias, in a step described by officials as the world's first known effort to replenish a natural freshwater lake with treated sea water.
The project aims to direct fresh water to enhance water levels in areas that have suffered from prolonged drought.
Engineers estimate that the new flow can raise the lake level several centimeters each month.
The water authorities in the occupying government say that the initiative aims to secure Lake Tiberias as a strategic national reservoir, amid the shortage resulting from climate changes, while environmental teams monitor the potential impacts of this unprecedented operation.
