Amman Chamber of Commerce discusses enhancing economic cooperation with Indonesia

Khaberni - The First Deputy of the President of Amman Chamber of Commerce, Nabil Al-Khatib, reaffirmed the Chamber's commitment to developing economic and trade relations with the Republic of Indonesia and strengthening the presence of the Jordanian private sector in promising Asian markets, pointing to the importance of building on the political ties between the two countries and pushing them towards practical and sustainable economic partnerships.
According to a statement from the Chamber today, Al-Khatib reviewed a number of priority files to enhance bilateral cooperation during the virtual meeting held via the Zoom application with the leadership of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including the activation of the Jordanian-Indonesian Business Council, and organizing trade missions and reciprocal visits between the business communities of the two countries.
Al-Khatib also highlighted Jordan’s strategic location and free trade agreements with the United States, Canada, and the European Union, providing promising investment opportunities. This allows Indonesian investors to establish production projects in the Kingdom and re-export their products at preferential prices to global markets.
Al-Khatib emphasized the importance of developing religious and therapeutic tourism programs between the two countries by including Jordan in the pilgrimage paths for Indonesian citizens and organizing familiarization trips to enhance tourism promotion, in addition to exploring the possibility of operating charter flights to facilitate the movement of tourist and religious delegations.
He stressed the substantial opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy, halal food industries, and logistics sectors, as well as the importance of exploring the possibility of establishing a direct flight route between Amman and Jakarta in cooperation between the airlines of both countries.
On his part, the President of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Emile Arifin, expressed his appreciation for this initiative, confirming the mutual interest in enhancing economic relations, especially in the religious tourism sector, and developing joint investment programs in the fields of hotels, solar energy, and halal products.
He also mentioned the possibility of importing Indonesian cinnamon and spices into the Jordanian market, repackaging them within the Jordanian free zones, and re-exporting them to American and European markets.
In turn, the General Manager of Amman Chamber of Commerce, Ghalib Hijazi, highlighted the importance of continuing joint institutional meetings and intensifying communication between the two chambers to ensure that the proposed ideas are turned into practical projects that serve the commercial and economic interests of Jordan and Indonesia.
During the meeting, both sides agreed on a set of practical steps to enhance economic cooperation, notably accelerating the work towards signing a free trade agreement or a preferential trade agreement between the two countries, and activating the Jordanian-Indonesian Business Council to be a permanent platform for dialogue and follow-up.
They also agreed on preparing to hold a joint business forum in Amman in the upcoming period, developing religious and therapeutic tourism programs, and facilitating direct connections between companies in various sectors.
Both parties emphasized the importance of encouraging Indonesian investments in Jordan's free and developmental zones, along with enhancing cooperation in halal food industries and economically prioritized sectors.
