Khaberni - Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, confirmed that traditional gaming devices will not disappear in the near future, however, the direction of the gaming industry over the next decade will be towards computers and open operating systems.
Zelnick said in an interview with "Squawk Box" on CNBC that the industry is moving towards the computer, and towards more open models, but he emphasized that the concept of the immersive game that is played for hours on a large screen will remain regardless of the device type.
He explained that the market currently sees a convergence in the share between gaming platforms and smartphones, but the mobile gaming sector is growing at a faster rate compared to home devices.
Despite the success of companies like "Sony" and "Nintendo" in continuing to rely on traditional devices, competitors such as "Microsoft" have started to hint at a future closer to the computer ecosystem in the new generation of "Xbox" devices.
Last week, "Valve" attracted attention after unveiling the "Steam Machine", a hybrid between a computer and a home platform, allowing PC games to be played on the TV or used as a full gaming computer.
