The photo spread quickly, especially since it showed Assala in a completely natural look, away from the strong makeup and filters usually seen in celebrity photos, which sparked a wave of mixed comments from the audience.
Following the escalation of the controversy, composer Mahmoud Khyami deleted the photo from his account, before reposting an edited version that showed Assala in a softer look, then deleting it again, which raised more questions about the motives for the editing, and whether the step was at the request of the artist or out of respect for her privacy.
On another aspect, users of social media platforms circulated a video showing Assala with her husband Faiek Hassan at a family gathering, following rumors of their separation in recent days.
The video showed Assala dancing with her husband, and her daughter Sham Al-Dhahabi sharing friendly moments amidst a pleasant family atmosphere, attended by a number of close friends, among them the Egyptian artist Rami Sabri, who has a long friendship with Assala.
