Khaberni - Dr. Sophia Pilash, a dermatologist and hair specialist, warned that daily use of a hairdryer could cause serious damage to the hair structure and scalp.

Dr. explained that the hair shaft consists of three main layers:

The outer layer (cuticle): Acts as a protective layer.

The middle layer (cortex): Consists of scales linked by fats and forms more than 80% of the hair mass, ensuring its strength and flexibility thanks to keratin.

The inner layer (medulla): Contains the natural pigment and contributes to the hair's elasticity.

Pilash said, "The temperature of the airflow during drying can reach between 40 and 120 degrees Celsius, which leads to the disruption of the keratin protein's nature and the destruction of stabilizing bonds, causing the hair to lose its strength and flexibility."

She added that intense heat exposure damages the fat layer in the cuticle, leading to the evaporation of moisture and separation of the cuticle scales. As a result, the hair becomes weak, brittle, and prone to tangling, and regular exposure to hot air disrupts the scalp's lipid-water balance, causing irritation, dryness, and the appearance of dandruff.

The specialist recommends reducing these negative effects by:

Using heat protection products before styling the hair.

Choosing a medium temperature and keeping the hairdryer at least 15 cm away from the hair.

Allowing the hair to partially dry naturally before styling.

Using moisturizing masks and conditioners regularly, applying them to the hair only.
