Barrett Frustrates Hungary and Moves Ireland to the Playoffs

Khaberni - Troy Barrett scored three goals "hat-trick" against Hungary to lead the Irish football team to the European play-offs qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico on Sunday.

In the Hungarian capital Budapest, the hosts took an early lead with a goal by Daniel Lukas in the third minute, but Barrett equalized for Ireland from a penalty in the 15th minute.

Soon after, Barnabas Varga put the Hungarian team back in front, scoring the host team’s second goal in the 37th minute, but Barrett continued his brilliance by scoring Ireland's second and third goals in the 80th minute and the sixth minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half respectively.

Ireland's national team raised their points to 10, moving up to second place, leading by two points over the Hungarian team, which fell to third place, while Portugal, who qualified for the World Cup, leads with 13 points.
