Khaberni - In recent hours, conflicting reports have surfaced about the intention of Florentino Perez, the current president of the Spanish club Real Madrid, to resign from his position next year.
Perez began his seventh term as president of Real Madrid on January 21, 2025, and it is scheduled to continue until 2029.
The truth about Perez's resignation
The famous Spanish journalist Pepe Alvarez sparked these speculations after discussing Perez's intention to resign from his post next year, in a tweet he posted late last Friday evening.
Alvarez shared a post on his official X account writing "Florentino Perez has decided to leave the presidency of Real Madrid during the next year although his term does not end until 2028."
Alvarez mentioned the reasons for this sudden move according to his information saying "(Perez) wishes for the process of electing a new president to be orderly, whether members support the referendum or not."
While Real Madrid fans were shocked, the renowned journalist Alberto Perreira came forward to deny these reports and clarify that there is no truth to the "claims" mentioned.
For his part, Perreira confirmed that Perez does not intend to leave Real Madrid or step down from his position before the end of his current term in 2029.
It is expected that Perez himself will address this matter and clarify his position at the general assembly meeting of Real Madrid scheduled to be held on November 23, according to the site "Madrid Universal" closely associated with the royal club.
Perez, a historic president of Real Madrid
Perez is one of the most influential figures in the history of Real Madrid and can be considered "a pioneer of building the modern institution that the club has become today" as described by the Spanish site.
Perez first took over the presidency of Real Madrid in 2000 and continued until 2006, then returned again in 2009 and has been in office until now.
Perez faced no significant competition during the recent elections held at the beginning of this year and won the presidency by acclamation.
At the age of 78, the end of Perez's era with the club seems near, and thus his current term might be his last, according to the same site.
It should be noted that under Perez's leadership, Real Madrid has won 65 titles in football and basketball, comprising 37 in the former:
• La Liga (7).
• Copa del Rey (3).
• Spanish Super Cup (7)
• UEFA Champions League (7).
• UEFA Super Cup (6).
• FIFA Club World Cup (7).
