Khaberni - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Saturday of worsening humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip as heavy rains intensified, confirming that thousands of displaced families are now seeking refuge in any available space, including temporary tents that do not provide the minimum protection requirements.

The agency stated that the urgent need for shelter is increasing significantly, amid an inability to provide tents and essentials that protect the population from cold waves and rain, emphasizing the necessity of allowing it to bring in humanitarian aid without any obstacles.

UNRWA mentioned that the current low pressure exacerbates the already existing emergency situation, as tents are subject to tearing and collapsing under continuous rain and fierce winds, threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands of displaced people who have lost their homes due to the war.

The agency clarified that there are escalating international movements to press Israel to allow the entry of relief aid into the sector, at a time when the displaced face a complex crisis that includes flooding of tents, damage to destroyed homes, and a declining ability to obtain essential supplies.

As the winter season intensifies and the effects of the low pressure deepen on Gaza, the circle of humanitarian suffering experienced by about one and a half million displaced people widens, as rainwater floods their worn tents, and the winds sweep away what remains of them, leaving families facing harsh cold and increasingly harsh living conditions day after day.
