Khaberni - Data released from (AA) Driving School in Britain shows that one of the trainees spent £2944 ($3871) in attempts to pass the driving theory test after attempting it 128 times unsuccessfully, according to SkyNews.
According to the same data, another trainee did not pass the exam until the 75th attempt, after accruing total costs of over £1700.
The cost of each attempt for the driving theory test, which must be passed before booking the practical exam, is £23.
The test evaluates the applicant's knowledge of traffic rules and safe driving practices through multiple-choice questions and an assessment of hazard perception through hazard simulation video clips.
For those who succeed in the theory test, the practical test remains another hurdle.
Last year, the highest number of practical test attempts before passing was 21, with costs ranging between £1302 and £1575, depending on the time of the tests.
The data also revealed that two individuals each took the practical test 37 times without success, each spending up to £2220.
These figures were obtained after a request for disclosure of information submitted to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
According to the agency, the pass rates for the theory and practical tests during the fiscal year 2024/2025 were 44.9% and 48.7% respectively.
Emma Bush, the General Manager of AA Driving School, said that "revision is the key to success" in the theory test, adding: "It's easy to underestimate the amount of knowledge needed to pass the theory test."
The waiting periods for practical tests in Britain reached a record level earlier this year, and driving instructors told SkyNews that booking a driving test appointment through the government site has become almost impossible due to automatic booking software on the system.
Individuals and companies use these programs to bulk book test appointments and then resell them for profit. Although this behavior is not against the law, it constitutes a violation of the terms of use of the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
Recent data shows that the agency closed over 800 commercial accounts due to misuse of the booking service in the past two years.
