Khaberni - A landslide on the Indonesian island of Java resulted in two deaths and at least 21 others missing, according to an official from the National Disaster Management Agency this Friday.
The landslide affected three villages in the Cilacap area of Central Java on Thursday evening, damaging homes and burying others. Abdul Mohari, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Agency, stated in a Friday announcement, "As of Friday morning, the joint team has rescued 23 people alive. Two individuals were found deceased, and the search is ongoing for 21 others."
He added that unstable ground has hindered rescue efforts, and heavy equipment has been deployed to assist. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency issued a warning earlier this week about severe weather conditions.
The agency warned that it could lead to climate-related disasters and that many areas in Indonesia might experience heavy rainfall in the coming weeks. Typically extending from November (November) to April (April), Indonesia’s annual rainy season often leads to landslides, floods, and the spread of water-borne diseases.
