Khaberni - Jim Farley, the CEO of the American car manufacturer Ford, revealed that the company's engineers dismantled rival electric vehicles to explore their secrets.
He acknowledged that Ford discovered a significant gap in development and efficiency in favor of Tesla and Chinese manufacturers, during his talk on the Office Hours: Business Edition podcast.
Ford finds itself, like many traditional car companies, under increasing pressure from Tesla in the United States and from rapidly advancing Chinese manufacturers abroad. These new competitors are more flexible and excel in the areas of electric car design and software, which are among the traditional companies' weakest points.
As previously reported, where the president of Ford warned of the Chinese threat, stating it is now greater than what Japanese cars posed in the 1980s, he returned to reveal a shocking moment that made him rethink Ford's entire strategy.
Farley said that Ford engineers were astounded when they began dismantling the Tesla Model 3 and some electric vehicles made in China, discovering their cost, efficiency, and software integration superiority.
One of the biggest surprises was that the Ford Mustang Mach-E contains a full extra mile of electrical wiring compared to the Tesla Model 3, meaning greater weight and complexity unnecessarily.
These findings prompted Farley to create Ford's Model E division in 2022, dedicated to electric vehicles.
Farley mentioned that electric cars are growing at an explosive pace in China, explaining that the Chinese government is vigorously pushing the industry.
He added that Ford cannot escape from electric cars; if Ford wants to remain a global company, it will not simply concede to the Chinese.
He said he knew it would be very difficult from a business perspective, and his philosophy is to confront the toughest challenges as soon as possible, sometimes openly.
In conclusion, the president of American Ford last year revealed that he drives the Chinese competitor Xiaomí SUV 7 daily and praised it, reflecting his recognition of the magnitude of the Chinese threat and the speed of its development.
