Khaberni - The British government faces increasing pressure after mistakenly releasing more than 90 prisoners in a series of incidents that have sparked widespread controversy in British circles.
Recent figures released by the British Ministry of Justice show that 91 prisoners were released by mistake between April and October last, according to British media reports.
The British newspaper "The Guardian" reported that ministers are facing intense pressure following a series of extensive nationwide security chases recently.
The Justice Minister, David Lammy, offered a "frank apology" and stated before the House of Commons that the release process "needs a radical reform".
The British minister explained that three prisoners who were released by mistake are still at large, and a fourth possible case is being investigated, according to the British network "Sky News".
Among the three confirmed cases, two occurred in August and December of last year, and the third in June of this year.
Last Friday, the British authorities announced tightened security measures in prisons and launched independent investigations into the wrongful release incidents.
These incidents provoked an official reaction denouncing these events, where the Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Genrick ridiculed Lammy for not knowing the number of prisoners still at large. He told MPs, "The Justice Minister is completely ignorant, he has literally lost count of the prisoners who were released."
The number of mistakes in releasing prisoners in Britain has risen, with 262 wrongful releases recorded between March 2024 and March 2025, a 128% increase compared to 115 cases last year.
Among those released by mistake, 87 prisoners' principal crimes were related to violence against persons, and 3 others were convicted of sexual offenses.
The Ministry of Justice explained that the release mistakes either resulted from lost custody orders, detention orders, errors in sentencing duration, or in court documents.
