Khaberni - The defense team for Egyptian star Amr Diab has filed an official appeal against the judgment issued by the New Cairo Misdemeanor Appeals Court, which fined him 200 EGP for assaulting a young man during one of his concerts, an incident that sparked widespread controversy on social media platforms.
The public prosecution had referred Amr Diab and the young man Saad Osama to the Misdemeanor Court, after the two exchanged accusations of assault, where the artist was charged with hitting, while the young man was accused of trying to physically interact with him during the concert.
Two opposing narratives
During the investigation sessions, Saad Osama stated that he was trying to take a commemorative photo with Diab, before he was surprised by a slap from him in front of the audience, which led him to file a report about the incident.
On the other hand, Diab denied the accusations directed against him, asserting that the young man deliberately provoked and disturbed him verbally during the concert, and that his reaction, according to his defense, was spontaneous and was not intended to assault.
On his part, the artist's lawyer, Ashraf Abdel Aziz, said that he has appealed and contested the verdict, requesting his client's acquittal and considering that the circumstances indicate "clear provocation prior to the incident".
The competent court is scheduled to review the appeal in the coming weeks to determine whether the fine ruling will remain in effect, or whether it will be canceled or amended, in a case that still enjoys broad public and media attention.
Continuous Success Amidst Controversy
These developments occur while Diab continues his artistic activity without pause. He recently held a large concert at Dubai Arena, amid a large audience.
In the artistic arena, the one nicknamed "Al Hadaba" continues to enhance his presence in the music scene; after more than four decades in his career, the year 2025 marked a continuation of his success with his new album "Ebtedaina," which topped the listening charts both regionally and internationally, and was distinguished by a striking mix of Eastern rhythms and modern music styles.
Among the most prominent songs of the album, "Khatfouni” in which his daughter Jana Diab participated, alongside "Papa" which achieved widespread popularity, in a fresh confirmation of Diab's ability to maintain his popularity across generations.
