AlShara We prefer an agreement that returns the occupied lands and we do not support broad normalization with Israel

Khaberni - Syrian transitional president Ahmed Al-Shara confirmed that he prefers an agreement that returns the occupied Syrian territories since last December and that he does not support a broader normalization agreement with Israel.

In an interview with senior editors at the American "Washington Post" newspaper, Al-Shara described the negotiations with Israel as "difficult, but ongoing with support from Washington and other international parties," emphasizing that "the United States is the only country in the world that can regulate Israeli actions," according to the "Syrian News" website.

Al-Shara explained in his interview with the newspaper in Washington that "the conditions of any future agreement will require Israel to withdraw to the positions where its forces were stationed before the fall of the previous regime."

The Syrian president noted that "lifting sanctions is essential to give Syria a chance to recover from decades of war," adding that "the majority of the Congress members he met also support lifting the sanctions."

Al-Shara continued, "Through the policies of Mr. Trump, it is clear that he supports the stability and regional integrity of Syria, and for the complete lifting of sanctions on Syria, therefore he is pushing in this direction."

In an interview with "Fox News" on Tuesday, Al-Shara emphasized that Syria does not directly negotiate with Israel, but he considered that the American administration could help reach "some kind of negotiation with the Israeli side."
