Khaberni - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed on Tuesday his commitment to hand over Palestinian Hisham Harb to the French authorities soon.
Harb, who was arrested in the West Bank in September, is suspected of overseeing the group that carried out the Paris Rue Rosier attack in 1982, which resulted in the death of six people.
In a conversation with "Le Figaro" newspaper, published hours before his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, Abbas mentioned that: "The legal procedures related to the extradition have reached their final stages, and only some technical details remain to be resolved by the relevant authorities in both countries."
The Palestinian president reiterated his readiness to hand over the wanted individual, noting that "France's recognition of the state of Palestine has provided an appropriate framework for this French request."
On another note, Abbas repeated various commitments he made in the past months in the context of international efforts to end the fighting in Gaza and to solidify the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, on October 9, under pressure from US President Donald Trump.
Abbas emphasized again that "Hamas will not have any role in governing Gaza," confirming the readiness of the Palestinian forces to deploy in the sector in coordination with the multinational force stipulated by the American peace plan.
He also affirmed his readiness to conduct "general presidential and legislative elections within the year following the end of the war," without explicitly confirming that they will be held during the year 2026.
